SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Junior
Sierra Peterson recorded 10 kills for the fifth time this season but it was not enough as the South Dakota State volleyball team suffered a 25-18, 26-24 and 25-21 loss to Omaha Friday night at the Sanford Pentagon in The Summit League action before 669 fans.
Sophomore
Ashlynn Smith and freshman
Macy Smith each added eight kills for the Jackrabbits, who fall to 2-20 overall and 0-9 in league play. Senior
Ellie Benson had a match-high 13 digs.
Omaha, which is now 7-14, 4-4, was led by Gessica Gdowski's 14 kills. Abby Bergsten added 11. Omaha recorded nine team blocks.
Turning Points
In set one, the teams tied four times until the Jackrabbits took a 13-11 lead on two Omaha errors. The teams had six more ties until UNO closed the set on a 7-0 run, highlighted by four team blocks.
The Jackrabbits took a quick 4-0 lead with a pair of kills by junior
Payton Richardson, one from freshman
Maddie Fay and an ace by Smith. Omaha responded with a 7-0 run for a 7-4 lead. The Mavericks led 13-9 until three-straight attack errors cut the match to 13-12. UNO scored the last two points to record the win.
Back-to-back Omaha errors gave the Jackrabbits a 17-16 lead in the third set. UNO the used a 9-4 run to close the third.

"This was the most consistent match we have had all year. Though we are never satisfied with a loss, it was a step in the right direction," third-year head coach
Nicole Cirillo said. "We have really dug deep into something the last couple of days as a team so we are starting to gel now. There a lot of positive things to take away from the match."
Notables
- Mattison Munger recorded two set assists tonight. She now has 1,993 career assists, seven from 2,000 career assists at SDSU.
