Clarissa Ober will continue her basketball career in Germany after signing a professional contract recently with ChemCats Chemnitz in the Damen-Basketball-Bundesliga (DBBL).

"I am extremely blessed to be playing professionally overseas while being able to see different things that I may have never been able to see," Ober said. "I'm beyond excited, but nervous, to go and play. Playing at SDSU has given me all the experiences I need to be successful."Â

The two-time Summit League Defensive Player of the Year will begin preseason practice along with a few games in August. The regular season opens at the end of September. ChemCats is in the DBBL's first division, the highest league in German basketball

Ober is the sixth Jackrabbit to play professionally. Jennie Sunnarborg began playing in Australian in 2014 and, after a two-year hiatus, returns to her former team Kalamunda Eastern Suns in the Australian State Basketball League.

Former Jack Megan Vogel became the first SDSU alum to be selected in the WNBA Draft when she was selected 19
th overall in the second round by the Washington Mystics in 2007.

Vogel (Friendsfactory Baskets BG Donau-Ries) and Jill Young (MLP Bascats USC Heidelberg) also played professionally in Germany. Melissa Pater (Eurosped Twente Tubbergen) and Andrea Verdegan (Celeritas-Donar Groningen) played in Holland.

Chemnitz is the third-largest city in the Free State of Saxony, Germany. It is in eastern Germany, an hour from Dresden.
