A Sturgis native, Doug Miller earned All-America honors in both 1991 and 1992, receiving consensus All-America accolades as a senior. He also was a two-time all-North Central Conference selection and was named North Central Conference Most Valuable Defensive Lineman in 1992.
As a junior, Miller led the Jackrabbits in tackles with 114 and then led the squad in both tackles (91) and interceptions (3) during his senior season in 1992.
Miller, who was inducted posthumously, was selected to play in the Kelly Tire Blue-Gray All-Star Game following his senior season. He was selected in the seventh round of the 1993 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers and played two seasons, including reaching the Super Bowl with the Chargers during the 1994 season, before embarking on a coaching career.
Miller, who also briefly played basketball for the Jackrabbits, was killed on July 21, 1998, when he was struck by lightning while camping in Colorado.
