Northern Arizona's Kaylie Jorgenson and Heaven Harris combined for 24 kills to lead the Lumberjacks past South Dakota State 25-15, 25-16 and 25-19 Saturday evening in the Hampton Inn Jackrabbits Invitational at Frost Arena.

Sophomore Makenzie Hennen recorded nine kills to lead Jackrabbits (1-5), who played in front of 224 fans. Freshman Macy Smith added seven kills.

Turning point
After South Dakota State opened the first two sets with 3-0 runs, Jorgenson led Northern Arizona back with seven combined kills to take leads.

It was over when …
Northern Arizona used a 7-1 run to take a 21-14 lead in the first set. The Lumberjacks opened the third set with an 8-1 run.

They said it
"Took a big step back tonight. Everything on the court, for whatever reason, was different and we could not pull it together," third-year head coach Nicole Cirillo said. "We tried a bunch of different lineups, put people in different spots and just couldn't find anything that was going to work."

Stars of the match
Freshmen Erin Cutts and Macy Smith started and combined for 12 kills.

Tournament stars
Named to the Hampton Inn Jackrabbits Invitational all-tournament team were:
Cal State Bakersfield – Sydney Haynes, Emily Lopes and Haylee Roberts;
Northern Arizona – Kaylie Jorgenson and Heaven Harris;
Valparaiso – Ally Cummings; and
South Dakota State – Makenzie Hennen.
Roberts was named the invitational's most valuable player.

Of note

Mattison Munger is now within 10 assists of making the SDSU career top 10 for assists. She has 1,678.
Erin Cutts made her first collegiate start at middle hitter.
