South Dakota State men's basketball head coach
T.J. Otzelberger announced Friday the addition of Michael Carter III to the Jackrabbit program. Carter played last season at the University of Washington and will sit out the 2018-19 season with three years of eligibility remaining.
Â
"Michael is a dynamic guard with the ability to make plays for his teammates as well as score the ball," Otzelberger said. "His character, work ethic and desire to be great will impact our program immediately."
Â
Carter logged time in 17 games last season for the Huskies while missing 11 contests in November/December due to injury. He scored a career-high nine points in 19 minutes of action at Utah on Jan. 18, burying 3-of-6 from the field.
Â
He played his junior and senior high school season at O'Dea High School in Seattle. He averaged 17 points in his final year to lead the Fighting Irish to the 2016 Class 3A state championship before playing a prep season (2016-17) with the Elite Sports Academy in Issaquah, Washington.
Â
"I feel like coach (Otzelberger) really trusts me and has already shown that he wants me to come in, make an impact and help the program," Carter said. "I haven't found that commitment in any other coach and I already have confidence that he'll help me get to where I want to be. This was the best basketball opportunity that I had. South Dakota State has a winning culture and I can't wait to be a part of it."
