Jerald T. Moriarty Field
Located to the north of Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium and the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex, the newly renovated home of Jackrabbit Softball will be officially dedicated as Jerald T. Moriarty Field during the team's home-opening weekend on April 5, 2025, when SDSU hosts South Dakota.
Formerly known as Jackrabbit Softball Stadium, the facility underwent a conversion from a natural grass playing surface to state-of-the-art synthetic turf beginning in the fall of 2024. The transformation was made possible through a lead gift from Kevin, Cynthia, and Michele Moriarty, along with significant gifts from GeoTek Engineering and DeBoer Construction.
The former Jackrabbit Softball Stadium officially opened with its first game on April 20, 2007.
Permanent dugouts were added to the stadium in 2008 and since the park has seen numerous enhancements, including wind screens and updated SDSU branding along with improvements to the playing surface.
In fall of 2016, the Jackrabbit softball team installed a net backstop, replacing the original chain-link backstop to provide better sight lines for fans and a cleaner look. That netting received a further upgrade in 2020 and a new scoreboard and updated padding to the outfield wall were installed in 2021. A press box was added to the grandstand behind home plate in the spring of 2022.
Future additions to the facility includes permanent seating.
The Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex added a whole new dimension for the Jackrabbit softball team, allowing them to practice inside on the 100 yards of synthetic turf, and a high ceiling to allow for more realistic game conditions. The $32 million facility also includes batting cages for both the SDSU softball and baseball teams within the turfed area, and a separate hitting facility, opened in 2019, with two permanent cages and a training area.
