MISSOULA, Mont. ?South Dakota State held Montana scoreless for the first half, but fell to the Grizzlies 1-0 Sunday afternoon at the Montana Nike Cup.
Montana took a 1-0 lead in the 76th minute of the match as Kristina Lamberty scored off an assist from Sara Campbell. Sophomore Kellyn Farrell looked to put the Jacks on the board in the 84th minute, but saw her shot attempt saved by Grace Harris. Six minutes later, Farrell tried to tie the game at 1-1, but had her shot attempt blocked by the Montana defense.
Jackrabbit goalkeeper Nicole Lograsso stopped four shots, including three in the first half to keep Montana off the board. Harris saved four balls for the Grizzlies.
SDSU was outshot in the match 16-9. The Jacks were led on offense by Farrell, who recorded four shot attempts on the day. Fellow sophomore Chelsea Goosen chipped in with two for the match.
The shutout in the first half marked the third match in four games the Jackrabbits have held an opponent scoreless for a half.
SDSU moved to 3-7-1 on the year, while Montana improved to 6-5-0 on the season. The Grizzlies won both of their matches at South Campus Stadium this weekend, defeating North Dakota State 3-0 in first-round action.
South Dakota State will be back in action this Wednesday at Fishback Soccer Park in Brookings when it takes on United Soccer Conference member North Dakota State. Start time for the match is set for 6 p.m. 1430 AM will broadcast the match between the Bison and Jackrabbits.
