South Dakota State University quarterback Andy Kardoes has been named Great West Football Conference Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Jackrabbits to a come-from-behind victory over 16th-ranked UC Davis on Saturday.
Kardoes, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound senior from Algona, Iowa, finished the game 23-of-36 passing for a season-high 278 yards with two touchdowns as South Dakota State won its fifth game in row, defeating UC Davis 22-21. Kardoes engineered two
fourth-quarter scoring drives, including a 12-play, 91-yard drive that ended with a 9-yard touchdown pass on fourth down to Dusty Snyders with 1:08 remaining to give SDSU its only lead of the game. Kardoes' other touchdown pass was a 4-yarder
to tight end Chris Wagner earlier in the fourth quarter as the Jackrabbits overcame a 21-7 halftime deficit.
Kardoes became the second Jackrabbit player in as many weeks to earn the GWFC Offensive Player of the Week award. Sophomore wide receiver JaRon Harris was the recipient following SDSU's 29-28 victory at Cal Poly on Oct. 21.
The Jackrabbits, 5-3 overall, close out the home season Saturday by hosting William Penn (Iowa). Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Coughlin-Alumni Stadium.
