South Dakota State University punt returner Paul Aanonson has been selected as the Football Championship Subdivision National Special Teams Player of the Week by the website CollegeSportingNews.com for his performance in the Jackrabbits' 29-24 victory over top-ranked North Dakota State last week.
Aanonson, a senior from Cambridge, Iowa, returned a punt 94 yards for a touchdown ? the second longest in school history ? to give the Jackrabbits a 20-3 lead in the second quarter en route to the Great West Football Conference championship. On the play, Aanonson set the SDSU single-season record for punt return yards, finishing the season with 482. He also set the SDSU single-season record with 34 punt returns in 2007, and holds Jackrabbit career records with 63 punt returns for 768 yards. The punt return last week was his second career punt return for touchdown.
An interview with Aanonson can be heard on the CSN Waves program that will air at 7 p.m. Central Time Tuesday night and will later be an archived podcast.
