Joe Plihal helped the ?Rabbits to a league track title in 1932, and he won the 220-yard low hurdles and the 440-yard dash in 1933. He was also on the winning mile relay team in 1932 and '33.
After earning his degree in electrical engineering, he began a career in the Army which was preceded by a short stint in professional football. After 30 years in the military, which included duty in World War II and a stint with the NATO command, he retired with the rank of colonel and taught electronics at USD-Springfield until his retirement in 1976.
