South Dakota State made the best of its final non-conference game of the calander year, snapping its 17-game road losing skid and picking up its first win over a BCS conference school with a 65-58 win over Iowa State last week.
The Jackrabbits now look to keep that momentum moving forward when they return to Summit League play and continue their season-long four game road trip.
The road trip starts in Rochester, Mich., on Wednesday, when the Jacks and Golden Grizzlies square-off in a New Year's Eve battle at the ?O'Rena, where OU beat the Jacks 78-68 last season. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET.
SDSU then plays at IPFW in its first game of 2009 on Friday, Jan. 2, at 7 p.m. ET at Memorial Coliseum. The Mastodons won the last meeting in Fort Wayne, Ind., 73-63.
SDSU NOTES ? The Jackrabbits return to Summit League play after their win over Iowa State with a 6-8 overall record and a 1-1 record in league play. Clint Sargent adds 14.9 points, Kai Williams 9.7 points and six rebounds while Anthony Cordova adds 9.4 points and a team-best 7.6 rebounds per game.
The Jacks shoot .423 from the floor overall, .339 from three-point range. They average nearly three more rebounds per game than their opponents, but enter the week with more turnovers, fewer blocks and fewer steals than the competition. SDSU does though, hold a 175-167 edge over its opponents in assists.

COUNTDOWN TO 1,000 POINTS ? Junior Kai Williams enters the week with 901 career points, 99 shy of becoming the 39th member of the SDSU 1,000-Point Club and the first to score all of them at the Division I level.
Fellow junior Garrett Callahan, who leads the Jacks with 16 points per game, enters the week with 796 points, 204 shy of joining the club. Callahan needs to average exactly 12 points per game over the last 17 games to reach 1,000 points.
TRANSITION OVER ? The NCAA Division I Management Council Administrative Committee, acting on behalf of the DI Management Council, announced in late June that South Dakota State University met the requirements to become an active member of NCAA Division I, starting at the beginning of the 2008-09 academic year.
Previously a member of Division II, SDSU successfully completed the five-year process of moving its athletic programs to comply with Division I membership requirements. Those requirements include compliance with Division I rules for the final four years, meeting minimum financial aid and contest scheduling limits, engaging in a rules compliance review and successfully complete the athletics certification process.
SDSU officials submitted an extensive self-study to the NCAA in the spring of 2007 and a peer-review team completed the study during a campus visit in October 2007.
THIS WEEK'S COMPETITION
Oakland Golden Grizzlies (8-7, 1-1 Summit) ? The Golden Grizzlies enter the week with an 8-7 overall record and, like the Jackrabbits, a 1-1 conference record. OU dropped its league opener 82-66 at Southern Utah, but bounced back with an 84-78 win at UMKC.

The Series vs. Oakland ? Oakland swept the season series in 2007-08, the first two games in the series.
The Jackrabbits came up just short in the first meeting on Jan. 2, 2008 in Frost Arena, when a last second shot did not fall, preserving the 73-72 Oakland win.
OU then won the second meeting in the series 78-68 on Feb. 2, 2008, in Rochester, Mich.
IPFW Mastodons (5-8, 0-2 Summit) ? The Mastodons, who host North Dakota State on Wednesday, enter the week with a 5-8 overall record, 0-2 in league play, including a 78-62 loss at Southern Utah and a 70-62 loss at UMKC.
David Carson leads a pair of Mastodons averaging in double figures with 13.5 points per game. Ben Botts pitches in with 10.4 points. Both Nick Daniels and Deilves Yearby average eight points per game, but Yearby adds a team-high 6.8 rebounds and 20 blocks.
