PROVO, Utah ? Jenna Marston gave up just two hits, but got plenty of help from her defense, as South Dakota State came back to beat Utah State 2-1 on Monday in Provo, Utah.
The Jackrabbits only tallied five hits in the game and neither recorded an extra base hit.
SDSU improves to 7-16 heading into Tuesday's doubleheader at Utah Valley State, while the Aggies fall to 3-13.
Utah State got both of its hits in the top of the third inning, but the Aggies still needed a sacrifice bunt and a stolen base to manufacture their lone run.
Aggie starter Lindsey Benson faced just two batters over the minimum through the first five innings before the Jackrabbits finally got something going in the bottom of the sixth.
Sam Heinzman got things going for SDSU with a one-out single into right field, and quickly stole second to get into scoring position for Brooke Postma, who drove her home with a single past the first baseman to the game at 1-1.
Postma then stole second before Ashley Durazo drew a walk to put runners on first and second for Dani Broshar, who drove Postma home with a single to right field to give the Jacks a 2-1 lead.
Marston set the Aggies down in order in the top of the seventh to secure her seventh win of the season, and the 2-1 Jackrabbit win.
Heinzman, Postma, Brohar and Stephanie Peters all went 1-for-3 in the win, while Durazo finished the game 1-for-2 with a base on balls.
The Jackrabbits wrap-up their tour through the Beehive State on Tuesday in Orem, Utah, with a doubleheader against Utah Valley State at 3 p.m. MT.
The Jacks then return to Summit League play on Friday, with a doubleheader in Fort Wayne, Ind., against IPFW.
