South Dakota State comes back to Frost this week to start a three-game homestand and looking to recover from a tough two-point loss at UMKC on Thursday and a heartbreaking overtime loss at Southern Utah on Saturday of last week that dropped its record to 8-12 overall and 3-5 in The Summit League.
The last time the Jackrabbits played at home, they knocked Western Illinois from its spot atop The Summit League and soundly beat IUPUI to get back to an even 3-3 record in league play and an 8-10 overall record.
Now with the past behind them, the Jacks look to knock the new conference front-runner from its perch tonight, as they welcome rival North Dakota State to Frost Arena. The Bison come into the game with a league-best 7-1 record to go along with their 13-5 overall record.
SDSU NOTES ? Garrett Callahan leads the Jackrabbit offensive with 16.6 points per game, with 47 assists and with 20 steals. Clint Sargent enters the week averaging 14.9 points, while Kai Williams, who led the Jacks in scoring in each of his first two years on the team, averages 9.9 points, a team-high 6.8 rebounds to go along with his team-best six blocks.
Anthony Cordova, who along with Callahan are the only two players to start all 20 games, ranks third on the team with 10.2 points and second with 6.7 rebounds per game.
As a team, the Jacks shoot .441 from the floor overall and .362 from three-point range for an average of 69.6 points per game. Jackrabbit opponents shoot .474 from the field, .348 from long distance in scoring 70.4 points per game. The Jacks hold a 0.5 rebounding edge over their opponents, but enter the game with 33 fewer blocks, 31 fewer steals and with 18 more turnovers.
last week's action ? Garrett Callahan and Clint Sargent both scored 22 points and Kai Williams pulled down a season-high 15 rebounds, but Sargent's three-pointer for the win missed its mark and Williams' putback attempt for a tie rimmed out just before the buzzer sounded, sending SDSU to a 69-67 loss to UMKC at historic Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.
Sargent led all players with 24 points and Garrett Callahan scored 16, including a three-pointer with three seconds left in regulation, but Southern Utah's Jake Nielson sank a 30-foot prayer at the buzzer to tie the game at 75 and force overtime, where the Thunderbirds outscored the Jackrabbits 10-5 for an 85-80 win.
The two losses keep the Jacks winless in Summit League road games, increasing the mark to 13 straight.

The Junior from Regina, Saskatchewan led the Jackrabbits in scoring and rebounding in each of his first two years at SDSU.

THIS WEEK'S COMPETITION
North Dakota State Bison (13-5, 7-1 Summit, 4-4 Away) ? The Bison enter the game sitting atop The Summit League with a 7-1 conference record, a half game better than 6-1 Oral Roberts, who the Bison beat 83-75 earlier this season in Fargo.
Senior sensation Ben Woodside leads the Bison, and The Summit League with 23.9 points per game, thanks in large part, to a school and league record 60 point outing in a triple overtime loss against Stephen F. Austin (Texas) earlier this season.
Fellow senior Brett Winkelman ranks second on the team, and in the league, with 18.5 points per game to go along with his team-best 7.2 rebounds per game. Senior Mike Nelson also averages in double figures with 11.7 points per game.
The Bison, who rank at or near the top in almost every conference statistical category, shoot .485 from the floor and .415 from three-point range for an average of 81.7 points per game.
NDSU pulls down almost six more rebounds per game than its opponents and holds a significant edge in assists, turnovers and steals over the competition, but does enter the game with six fewer blocks than the opposition.
The Series vs. NDSU ? Friday's game marks the 197th meeting between the Jackrabbits and Bison, with NDSU holding a 103-93 edge in the overall series and a 6-3 advantage in the Division I era, including wins in the last four meetings.
The last SDSU win in the series came on Feb. 18, 2006, in Frost Arena, when the Jacks erased an 11-point NDSU first-half lead and hung on to win 67-65 in front of 4,040 fans.
THE ROSTER ? The 2008-09 SDSU men's basketball roster features 15 players from seven different states and one Canadian province. Of the 15 players, six hail from South Dakota, two each from Colorado and Illinois and one each from California, Nebraska, Minnesota and Iowa. The Jacks also
