BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The South Dakota State wrestling squad posted a 1-4 record amidst stiff competition at the Hoosier Duals Saturday afternoon. The event was hosted by the University of Indiana and held at the University Gym.
The Jackrabbits, who started as many as eight underclassman, lost to Liberty 27-17, Chattanooga 40-4 while defeating Cumberlands 30-12. The Jacks would also fall to Northern Illinois 32-15 and No. 11 Indiana 37-6 in the final match.
"I thought our kids wrestled hard today," said head coach Jason Liles. "We have a large group of young kids and it is hard to wrestle five duals in one day against some of the nation's top programs. I was very proud of our effort today."
Tyler Sorenson once again lead the way for the Jacks, recording a perfect 5-0 record at 197 pounds. A diversified win tally, Sorenson won two by fall, one by tech fall, one by major decision and a 9-7 decision to end the day over Matt Powless of Indiana. Sorenson improves to 17-2 on the season.
Aaron Pickrel at 125 pounds and Dustin Walraven at 141 pounds also had solid days for the Jacks posting 3-2 records. Pickrel improves to 17-6 while Walraven moves his record to 13-5 on the season. Nick Flynn also posted a two-win day with a 2-2 record at 157 pounds and bumps his record to 13-8.
The Jacks (1-5) will host their first home dual of the season on Dec. 12 when they host No. 8 Nebraska at the Swiftel Center at 2 p.m.
