TULSA, Okla. ? South Dakota State scored first, but Louisiana-Monroe fought back to tie the Jackrabbits and scored four runs in the fifth inning to secure an 8-4 win on Saturday at the Tulsa Select Festival softball tournament in Tulsa, Okla.
The Jacks fall to 2-11 with the loss, while the Warhawks improve to 4-8.
Jenna Marston started and gave up ten hits and eight runs, five earned, over the first five innings to take the loss, which drops her to 1-6 on the season.
Brittany Postma went 2-for-4 at the plate and Stacey Evans went 1-for-2, including her first homerun of the season, a two-run blast in the seventh.
The Jacks scored their first two runs in the first. Brooke Postma hit a one-out double to left and then advanced to third on a passed ball. Ashley Durazo came up next and reached on an error that allowed her to advance to third base and Postma to score to put SDSU up 1-0. Durazo later scored on a wild pitch to put the Jacks up 2-0.
ULM came back with one in the second and one in the fourth to tie the game at 2-all, and then scored four runs on three hits and two Jackrabbit errors in the fifth to go up 6-2. They added two more in the sixth to make it 8-2, before Evans' homer cut it to the final 8-4 in the top of the seventh.
The Jackrabbits return to action next weekend at the Razorback Invitational, in Fayetteville, Ark. SDSU opens the tournament on Friday with games against Wichita State and Bradley (Ill.), before wrapping up the tournament on Saturday with games against the host Arkansas and Ball State (Ind.).
