South Dakota State kicks off its final week of regular season action this week looking for its first Summit League at Oral Roberts on Thursday or at Centenary on Saturday.
The Jackrabbits opened the conference schedule against the same two teams in December at Frost Arena and came away with a 71-58 win against the Gents, but fell to the Golden Eagles 85-76.
Even though the Jacks dropped their only league game last week at North Dakota State, they still enter the week with in good position to make The Summit League tournament next week in Sioux Falls. Any combination of a Jackrabbit win or a Centenary or Western Illinois loss secures SDSU a spot in the field of eight.
SDSU played a rare Tuesday league game last week at NDSU so both the Jacks and Bison could play in the ESPNU BracketBusters on Saturday.
The Jacks hung with the Bison early, but NDSU got hot at the end of the first half, and put the game on ice with an early second half run.
After a couple of days back in Brookings, the Jacks made the trip San Luis Obispo, Calif., to take on Cal Poly in their BracketBuster game.
The Mustangs used a 19-0 run early in the first half to open up an 18-point lead, but SDSU came all the way back and led by as many as five points in the second half before Cal Poly regained the lead late and secured the 66-62 win.
SDSU NOTES ? Garrett Callahan leads the Jackrabbit offense with 16.3 points per game after becoming the 40th member of the SDSU 1,000 Point Club in the win over Southern Utah. Junior Kai Williams completed an old fashioned three-point play in overtime against Oakland on Jan. 31, to become the 39th member of the SDSU 1,000 Point Club and the first to score all of his points at the Division I level. He enters the week ranked 30th on the all-time scoring list with 1,061 points.
CALLAHAN JOINS 1,000 POINT CLUB ? Junior Garrett Callahan needed 20 points and got 24 in the Jacks win over Southern Utah on Feb. 12, to become the 40th member of the SDSU 1,000 Point Club, the second to score all of them at the D-I level and the second to achieve the milestone this season. He enters the game ranked 31st on the list with 1,046 career points and climbing fast.

Callahan ties the record set by Jim Sutton, who went 12-for-12 in a win over St. Thomas (Minn.) in Dec. 1956.
Callahan has made 29 straight free throws in parts of the last seven games and is 37-for-38 from the line over that span, with his only miss coming in a 10-for-11 effort vs. IPFW on Jan. 29.
TRANSITION OVER ? THIS WEEK'S COMPETITION
Oral Roberts Golden Eagles (15-13, 13-3 Summit, 8-1 Home) ? Oral Robert's two wins last week over Southern Utah and UMKC put them two games over the .500 mark for the first time this season. The Golden Eagles' bench out-scored the opposition 55-13 in two games, 64-46 over Southern Utah and 93-62 over UMKC.
Robert Jarvis leads ORU with 17.3 points per game and needs 34 points to reach 1,000 for his career. Jarvis scored a game-high 22 points at UMKC, including 6-of-8 from three-point range, and added three assists in just 27 minutes. Marcus Lewis adds 13.2 points per game and Kevin Ford 10.1 to go along with his team-high 7.6 rebounds per game.
The Golden Eagles shoot .446 from the floor overall, .324 from three-point range in scoring 71.1 points per game. Despite being just two games over .500, ORU host opponents to .426 shooting overall, .345 from long distance, and to 66.2 points per game. The Golden Eagles also fare better than their opponents in assistas, turnovers and steals, but enter the week with 12 fewer blocks than the competition.
The Series vs. Oral Roberts ? The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series 3-1, with wins in the last three meeting, including an 85-76 win at Frost Arena on Dec. 6, 2008.
The lone SDSU win in the series came on Jan. 24, 1968, when the Jacks won 92-83 in Brookings.
Centenary Gents (7-21, 5-11 Summit, 3-4 Home) ? The Gents, who host North Dakota State on Thursday, enter the week riding a seven game losing streak after dropping both of their games last week. They dropped a 61-59 decision at UMKC on Thursday and an 11-point, 79-68, game at Southern Utah on Saturday. The Gents need at least one win this week to remain in the hunt for a spot in the league tournament next week, as two losses would eliminate them.
Nick Stallings leads the Gents with 15.0 points and with 6.2 rebounds per game. Chase Adams adds 14.7 points and Gary Redus 11.5 points for the Gents.
Centenary shoots .394 from the floor overall and .341 from beyond the arc in scoring 62.9 points per game. In contrast, the Gents allow opponents to shoot .461 from the floor and .363 from deep for 70.3 points per game.
Centenary opponents average 8.6 more rebounds per game and hold an edge in assists and blocks, but the Gents hold an edge in turnovers and in steals.
The Series vs. Centenary ? The Gents lead the all-time series 2-1, but the Jacks did win the last meeting 71-58 on Dec. 5, 2008 in Frost Arena.
The Jacks played their first-ever Summit League game at Centenary on Dec. 6, 2007, but came on the short end of an 80-77 game. Centenary played its first game at Frost Arena on the final day of the 2007-08 season and completed the season sweep with a 69-64 win.
