SAN DIEGO ? Texas Tech pounded out 27 hits over two games and outscored South Dakota State 24-3 in a doubleheader sweep on Thursday in San Diego, winning Game 1 10-0 and Game 2 14-3.
The losses drop the Jacks to 3-20 on the season heading into Summit League play next week. The Red Raiders improve to 8-18 with the sweep.
Brooke Postma picked-up the only two SDSU hits in the opener, finishing the game 2-for-3 with a triple. Pam Nicholson took the loss on the mound.
The Jackrabbits threatened in the second inning with runners on second and third with one out, but TTU threw Stacey Evans out at home for the second out and Greta Stroh struckout to end the threat.
The Red Raiders got on the board with a single run in the third and then up their total by one run in each of the following three innings.
Postma hit a one-out triple in the sixth, but the next two batters flied out, ending any hopes of avoiding the shutout.
Texas Tech opened the nightcap with two runs in the first and added four more in the fourth to go up 6-0 before the Jacks could crack the scoreboard.
Ashley Durazo hit a one-out single to get things going in the Jackrabbit half of the fourth. Stacey Evans followed that up with a walk before Dani Broshar reached on a fielder's choice. TTU Threw out Durazo at third on the play to put runners on first and second for Kelsey Lunn, who delivered a two-out double to that scored Broshar and Evans to get the Jacks on the board, but down 6-2.
Texas Tech answered with eight runs on eight hits in the tip of the fifth to essentially put the game out of reach.
The Jacks did plate one run in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out Durazo RBI single that scored Pam Nicholson, but the rally came too late.
Jenna Marston took the loss for the Jacks, who begin Summit League play next week at IUPUI on Friday, March 20, in Indianapolis.
