South Dakota State starts the week with a clean slate and a 0-0 record and with the first goal of the season still intact, as Summit League play begins with a three-game series at IUPUI, starting with a doubleheader in Indianapolis on Friday, followed by a single game against the Jaguars on Saturday.
The Jackrabbits follow that up with a trip to Lincoln, Neb., on Tuesday, for a doubleheader at Nebraska.
SDSU opens the home schedule on March 27, with a doubleheader against Southern Utah, but as they learned last season, the weather may change that.
The Jacks got a rare weekend off after a tough spring break trip where the Jackrabbits dropped a three game series to defending national champion and seventh ranked Arizona State, doubleheaders to Miami (Ohio) and Texas Tech, along with a single game to San Diego State.
Ashley Durazo batted .381 over the eight games, but as a team, the Jackrabbit struggled at the plate and in the circle on the trip, but hope the experience can give them the tools needed to succeed in league play. JACKRABBIT SOFTBALL STADIUM ? Located just north of Coughlin Alumni Stadium, the Jackrabbits played their first game in Jackrabbit Softball Stadium on April 20, 2007, and finished their first season on the new field with a 5-6 record.
An unusually wet spring limited the Jacks to just one doubleheader in 2008, a split with Iowa State on the final day of the season, giving the Jackrabbits a 6-7 all-time record on its relatively new field.
POSTMAS ?STEAL' THE SHOW ? Senior Brooke Postma stole 14 bases in 14 attempts in 2006, followed that up with an SDSU single-season record 27-for-28 effort in 2007 and then stole 17 more bases in 2008 for an SDSU career record of 58. Brooke enters the week with three steals so far this season for a career total of 61.
Senior Brittany Postma stole ten bases in 2007, 25 in 2007 and ten more in 2008 for a career total or 45 heading into the 2009 season, good for fifth all-time. Her three steals this season gives her 48 for her career, good for second all-time, trailing only her twin sister. EVANS WALKS INTO THE RECORD BOOK ? Senior Stacey Evans drew four walks during the spring break trip, which gives her 56 for her career, tied for fifth all-time and three short of fourth place. Stacey Warner holds the SDSU record with 71 free passes from 1995-98.
MARSTON IN CAREER TOP 10s ? Senior pitcher Jenna Marston entered her final year at SDSU ranked in the top-10 in eight different career-pitching categories and on pace to finish first all-time in four of them.
Career complete games became the first record to fall, when she started her 97th career game against Texas Tech on March 12. Marston needs one complete game to tie the record at 72 and two to break it. She also needs just three appearances to tie the record and four to break it.
TRANSITION OVER ? The NCAA Division I Management Council Administrative Committee, acting on behalf of the DI Management Council, announced in late June that South Dakota State University met the requirements to become an active member of NCAA Division I, starting at the beginning of the 2008-09 academic year.
Previously a member of Division II, SDSU Successfully completed the five-year process of moving its athletic programs to comply with Division I membership requirements. Those requirements include compliance with Division I rules for the final four years, meeting minimum financial aid and contest scheduling limits, engaging in a rules compliance review and successfully complete the athletics certification process.
SDSU officials submitted an extensive self-study to the NCAA in the spring of 2007 and a peer-review team completed the study during a campus visit in October 2007.
IUPUI Jaguars (2-19, 1-2 Summit, 1-4 Home) ? The Jaguars enter the series after dropping both games of a home St. Patrick's day doubleheader to Minnesota. The Jags started the week by splitting their first Summit League doubleheader of the year, falling to Oakland 6-0 in Game 1 before winning Game 2 by the score of 2-1. The Golden Grizzlies won the series finale 7-1.
Sarah Oppelt leads a trio of Jaguars batting over .300 with a .380 average. Mia Ettl bats .302 and leads the Jags with three homeruns and with 11 RBI.
Amy Raker leads the pitching staff with a 6.10 ERA, but Samantha Bumbaugh (6.57 ERA) and Jessica McGown (7.39 ERA) have the only two wins for the Jags.
The Series vs. IUPUI ? The Jackrabbits lead the all-time series 3-0, after sweeping a three-game series last season in Ralston, Neb.
Originally scheduled for Brookings, weather forced SDSU to move the home series to Ralston, where the Jacks swept a doubleheader on March 28, and then won a single game on March 29.
Nebraska Cornhuskers (17-5, 0-0 Big 12, 3-0 Home) ? The Huskers, who play South Dakota on Wednesday and open Big 12 play at Texas A&M this weekend, started the week with a doubleheader sweep of The Summit League's preseason favorite North Dakota State on Tuesday by the scores of 2-1 in nine innings and 3-2 in ten innings.
Individually, Julie Brechtel leads eight players batting at least .300 with a .367 average. Heidi Foland bats .250, but leads the team with five homeruns, 19 RBI and with 34 total bases.

The Series vs. Nebraska ? The Cornhuskers lead the all-time series 8-0, which includes an 11-2 win over the Jacks on Feb. 8, at the season-opening UNI Dome Tournament in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
The Huskers also swept a doubleheader in Lincoln, Neb., last season on April 2, 2008.
South Dakota State Jackrabbits (3-20, 0-0 Summit, 0-6 Away) ? The Jackrabbits enter Summit League play this week with a 3-20 record after going 0-8 last week, which included three games against the defending national champion Arizona State Sun Devils, doubleheaders against Miami (Ohio) and Texas Tech and a single game against San Diego State.
ASU set the tone for the three-game set with the Jacks early in the first game, as the Sun Devils rattled-off 12 first inning runs in a 13-0 win. They followed that up with a 14-2 win and then completed the three-game sweep with a 9-1 win.
The Jacks left Tempe, Ariz., for San Diego to play the final five games of the trip, which started with a doubleheader against Miami (Ohio). The RedHawks took the opener 4-0 and then completed the sweep with a 4-1 win in the nightcap. San Diego State won the battle of the SDSU's with a convincing 7-0 win before Texas Tech ended the trip with a 10-0 and 14-3 wins in a doubleheader.
Ashley Durazo continues to lead Jacks offense with a .400 batting average, with four doubles and with 13 RBI. Brittany Postma ranks second on the team with a .368 batting average after and leads the team with two triples, but sat out the last five games of the trip with an injury.
