Undefeated Jackrabbits go for 6-0 vs. Nevada

The South Dakota State men look to improve on their best start to a season at the Division I level and make it a perfect 6-0 start on Tuesday against the Nevada Wolf Pack in the fourth game of a season-long seven game home stand, and then keep it rolling on Saturday in The Summit League opener against North Dakota State.
The Jackrabbits started the streak with a 94-80 win over Southwest Minnesota State on Nov. 18, and continued it with a dominating 79-47 win over Idaho State last Tuesday and a convincing 84-58 win over Eastern Illinois on Saturday.
Chad White led the Jacks with a career-high 24 points in the win over EIU, which completes the season sweep of the Panthers. White reached the career mark on 9-of-12 shooting, including a 5-for-7 night from three-point range. Griffan Callahan added 16 points on 5-of-6 shooting, with a 3-for-4 night from long range and led the Jacks with eight rebounds. Nate Wolters and Clint Sargent both finished with 12 points and combined for 10 assists, while Jordan Dykstra added a career-high nine points, all in the second half.
Sargent leads the Jackrabbit offense through five games with 15.6 points per game and adds 3.6 rebounds per game. Wolters averages 15.2 points per game and adds 3.6 rebounds. He also leads the team with 26 assists and with 19 three-pointers in 22 attempts. White averages 11.6 points per game, while Callahan adds 10.6 points and a team-high 5.4 rebounds per game. Jordan Dykstra scored 6.2 points per game and ranks second on the team with 5.2 rebounds per game.
JACKS ON THE RISE IN MID MAJOR TOP 25 POLL - For the first time in its short Division I history, the South Dakota State men's basketball team cracked the collegeinsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll, when the Jackrabbits debuted at No. 25 in the poll released on Nov. 22.
A week and two more wins after debuting in the poll, the Jacks jumped eight spots to No. 17 in the updated poll released on Monday.
CLIMBING THE 1,000 POINT CLUB LADDER - Jackrabbit Senior Clint Sargent became the 41st member of the SDSU 1,000-Point Club on Feb. 25, 2010, in the Jacks 66-53 win over Western Illinois right here in Frost Arena.
Sargent started the season tied for 33rd on the all-time list with 1,035 points, but enters the weekend ranked 24th all-time with 1,113 points, needing just two points to move to 22nd on the all-time list.
WOLTERS EARNS WEEKLY HONOR - The Summit League named guard Nate Wolters its co-Player of the Week on Nov. 15, after he helped lead the Jackrabbits to season-opening wins at Eastern Illinois and at Iowa.
Wolters averaged 18 points and six assists while connecting on all five three-point attempts and shooting 90 percent from the free throw line in a pair of road victories.
NAGY RAISING MONEY FOR HAITIAN RELIEF EFFORTS - Head coach Scott Nagy teamed up with Samaritan's Feet in each of the last two seasons to raise money and shoes for children in Haiti, a cause that really hits home for Nagy and his family, especially after a major earthquake shook the country on Jan. 12, 2010.
Already scheduled to coach in his bare feet on Jan. 23, 2010, against Oakland to raise money and shoes, the devastation in Haiti caused Nagy to shift his focus from shoes to earthquake relief, which worked to the tune of over $6,000.
Jackrabbit fans can play their part again in 2011, when Nagy coaches barefoot when the Jacks host IPFW on Jan. 22, in Frost Arena. Anyone interested in donating can simply text SHOES to 85944, which automatically adds $5 to your next phone bill. Donations from the '605' area code go specifically to help Nagy's cause.
SAAC COLLECTING COATS AND TOYS FOR KIDS - The South Dakota State Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) began collecting new or gently used coats for Coats for Kids and new toys for Toys for Tots this week. SAAC donates the coats to those in need and the toys to Project Joy. Project Joy puts together a store where eligible parents can pick out holiday gifts for their children.

Nevada Wolf Pack (1-4, 0-1 Away) - The Wolf Pack opened the season with a home win over Montana, but enter Saturday's game with the Jackrabbits riding a four game losing streak, two in Los Angeles against Pacific and Pepperdine and two in Washington D.C. against George Washington and Boston University, all of them part of the Dick's Sporting Goods Season Tip-Off.
Dario Hunt leads the Wolf Pack through the first five games with 14.6 points and with 8.0 rebounds per game. He also leads the team with four blocks. Malik Story adds 11.2 points and 2.8 rebounds per game as the only other player to average double-digit points thus far this season. Deonte Burdon does average 9.0 points per game, and also leads Nevada with 23 assists and with seven steals.
The Series vs. Nevada - The Wolf Pack lead the all-time series 2-0, including a 96-63 win on Dec. 3, 1982 and a 92-72 win last season on Dec. 12, both in Reno, Nev.
Nate Wolters led the Jacks in the loss with 15 points and six assists off the bench.
North Dakota State Bison (4-3, 0-0 Summit) - The Bison snapped a two game losing streak on Monday with an 88-55 win over Valley City State at home after opening the season with an overtime loss at Oregon in the Basketball Travelers Invitational in Eugene, Ore. NDSU bounced back with wins over UC-Santa Barbara and Denver at the same event and added a win over Mayville State before dropping games at No. 17 Minnesota and at Green Bay.
Michael Tveidt leads the Bison through eight games with a 13.4 points per game average, Eric Carlson adds 11.1 points per game and adds 5.0 rebounds per game. Marshall Bjorklund averages 5.1 rebounds to go along with his 10.0 points per game.
The Series vs. North Dakota State - The Bison lead the all-time series 107-92, including wins in each of the last eight meetings. The last Jackrabbit win in the series came on Feb. 18, 2006, when the Jacks won a 67-65 thriller in Frost Arena.
NEXT UP FOR THE JACKRABBITS - The seven game homestand comes to a close next week, but not before the Jacks host Mayville State on Wednesday and Milwaukee on Saturday. Both games start at 7 p.m.
