SALT LAKE CITY - South Dakota State scored first, but Utah countered with six unanswered runs as the Utes downed the Jackrabbits 6-1 on Wednesday in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The loss drops the Jacks to 5-13 heading into Summit League play on Friday in Cedar City, Utah against Southern Utah. The Utes, who play at Oklahoma on Friday, improve to 10-6 with the win.
Pam Nicholson started for the Jacks in the circle, but lasted just one and a third innings after surrendering five runs on six hits. Kori Seidlitz came on to pitch the final four and two thirds innings and gave up one run on three hits, with three strikeouts and four walks.
Devon Reick reached on an error to open the game and scored later in the inning on a Kelsey Lunn single to right field for the Jacks only run of the game.
Utah came back with a pair of runs in its half of the first and never looked back, adding three runs in the second and one more in the third inning.
Reick finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate, Lunn went 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Dani Broshar ended the game 1-for-1 with a pair of walks.
The Jacks get Thursday off to travel to Cedar City, and then open league play with a doubleheader against the Thunderbirds on Friday at 3 p.m. MT, 4 p.m. CT.
