ATHENS, Ga. - Just like they did on Monday at Minnesota, South Dakota State hung tough at Georgia on Wednesday and led by as many as seven points in the second half, but the Bulldogs kept pounding and eventually took a lead they would not relinquish in a 72-61 win over the Jackrabbits.
The Jackrabbits fall to 1-2 on the season with the loss, while Georgia improves to 3-0.
Nate Wolters led a trio of Jackrabbits in double figures with 15 points, Taévaunn Prince added 13 points, all in the first half, and led the team with nine rebounds. Chad White pitched in with 10 points in the loss, all of them in the second half.
Donte' Williams led four Bulldogs in double figures with 17 points, Gerald Robinson added 15, while both Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Nemanja Djurisic both finished with 14 points. Marcus Thornton added seven points and led Georgia with a game-high 10 rebounds.
Both teams came out cold, and neither team reached double figure points until Williams put Georgia up 10-9 with 10:31 left in the half.
The Jacks answered with an 8-0 run to go up 17-13 with 7:06 left in the first half. Georgia fought back to take a 20-19 lead as both teams heated up late in the half before going to the break tied at 29.
The Jackrabbits opened the second half on a 9-2 run to take their second seven point lead of the game, but Georgia turned a pair of SDSU turnovers into five points and then used a couple of three-pointers to take a 43-40 lead with 14:10 to play in the game.
Georgia would extend that lead to as many as eight points before the Jacks could cut it to three, but the Bulldogs kept pushing and slowly extending its lead.
The Jackrabbits return to action on Monday, when they return to the state of Georgia for three games in the CBE Classic, starting with Niagara on Monday at 4:30 p.m. ET.
NOTES: Wednesday's game marked the Jackrabbits first-ever game in the state of Georgia ... Wolters' 15 points in the game gives him 964 for his career, leaving him 36 shy of reaching the 1,000-point milestone.
