South Dakota State led by just four points in its lone exhibition game of the season against Minnesota State, Moorhead, but the Jackrabbits outscored the Dragons 45-36 in the second half to secure a 77-64 win on Thursday night at Frost Arena.
Nate Wolters led the Jacks with 24 points, including a perfect 11-for-11 night at the free throw line. Chad White added 12 points and Jordan Dykstra 11 points in the win. Griffan Callahan led the Jackrabbit defense with seven rebounds to go along with his five points.
Alex Novak led the all scorers with 20 points and added a game-high 14 rebounds in a losing cause. Jake Lindfors scored 12 points.
The Dragons opened the game on a 7-0 run and led until the 10:08 mark of the first half, when Wolters put the Jacks up 14-13 on a pair of free throws. The Jacks would lead by as many as 11 points in the first half before taking a 32-28 lead into the lockerroom at halftime.
MSUM scored the first five points of the second half to take a short-lived 33-32 lead, but Wolters quickly scored on the next possession to put the Jacks up for good at 34-33. SDSU would stretch the lead to 15 points on three occasions in the second half before reaching the final 13-point margin.
The exhibition season over, the Jacks return to action for real on Saturday, Nov. 12, when they host Western Michigan in the season and home opener at 1 p.m.
