12/15/2011 10:05:00 AM | Men's Basketball
South Dakota State opened the season at home, but hit the road for eight straight games before returning home last week for three games, all of which the Jackrabbits won. Not only did the Jacks win all three games, but they scored at least 92 points in all three games, won by at least 23 points in all three and shot over 50 percent in all three. SDSU would like to keep those trends going this week, when the Jacks return to the road for a rematch with North Dakota on Thursday at 7 p.m., followed by a game at Washington on Sunday at 12 p.m. PT, 2 p.m. CT.
The Jackrabbits opened Saturday's game with North Dakota on a 15-0 run and never looked back in a 92-54 win at Frost Arena, as six Jackrabbits scored in double figures in the first meeting between the former conference foes since March 2, 2004.
SDSU led 39-21 at the half, and continued to build on the lead in the second half, going up as many as 41 points before the game ended with the final 38-point margin, which ties the highest margin of victory by either team in the 183 game series that dates back to Feb. 19, 1917.
The Jacks followed up Saturday's win over North Dakota with a convincing 93-60 win over Dakota State on Monday night, when six Jackrabbits scored in double figures and Brayden Carlson set career-highs with eight assists and five steals.
Chad White paced the Jacks, who led wire to wire, with 22 points. Taévaunn Prince added 15, Jordan Dykstra 12, Griffan Callahan 11 and Zach Horstman 10 points in the win.
Dykstra also tied for game-high honors with seven rebounds with Marcus Heemstra, who tallied career-highs with eight points and seven boards, as SDSU out-rebounded the visiting Trojans 45-24, including an 18-9 edge on the offensive glass.

JACKS RECEIVING VOTES MID-MAJOR TOP-25 - South Dakota State received 12 votes in the collegesinsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 poll released on Dec. 12. Other Summit League teams in the poll include Oakland at No. 18, with North Dakota State and Oral Roberts also receiving votes.
WOLTERS JOINS THE 1,000-POINT CLUB - Nate Wolters set the sophomore scoring record last season with 604 points. Add that to his 303 points as a freshman, and the standout point guard entered the 2011-12 season needing just 97 points to become the 42nd member of the SDSU 1,000-Point Club, which he accomplished in the Jacks win over Sam Houston State on Nov. 22. Wolters enters tonight's game with 1,129 career points, good for 23rd all-time at SDSU.
WOLTERS CHASES SCORING RECORD - Nate Wolters scored 907 points in his first two years as a Jackrabbit, including the SDSU sophomore record with 604 points. Double that two-year point total, and it does not appear that he entered his junior season on pace to break the all-time SDSU scoring record of 1,931 points, but if he averages 512 points per season over his last two years, the record, set by Mark Tetzlaff from 1981-85, would indeed fall.
WOLTERS AND CALLAHAN EARN CBE CLASSIC HONORS - Nate Wolters averaged 19 points per game and dished out 14 assists in leading the Jackrabbits to three wins at the CBE Classic Macon Sub-regional last week, all of which earned him MVP honors at the event. Senior Griffan Callahan averaged 15.7 points and led the Jacks with 6.7 rebounds per game to earn all-tournament team honors.
NAGY NEARS MILESTONE WIN - Already the most prolific coach in SDSU history, Jackrabbit head coach Scott Nagy entered the 2011-12 season with 289 wins, just 11 shy of reaching the 300-win milestone. His nine wins this season give him 298 for his career, two wins shy of the milestone.
THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS
North Dakota (4-5, 4-1 Home) - North Dakota closed a three game road trip against the Jackrabbits on Saturday, and enter Thursday's game with a 4-1 record at home, all of which makes a repeat of Saturday's game in Brookings unlikely.
Before falling in Brookings on Saturday, North Dakota dropped a 78-75 game at UMKC on Dec. 7, and at Idaho State on Dec. 3. North Dakota also fell to Summit League foe Western Illinois at home, 65-62, on Nov. 26, its only home loss of the season.
Troy Huff leads four UND players averaging in double figures with 14.6 points per game. Huff also leads the team with 6.4 rebounds per game. Aaron Anderson averages 12.1 points per game, Patrick Mitchell 10.9 points and Jamal Webb an even 10 points per game to go along with his team-high 32 assists.
The Series vs. North Dakota - North Dakota leads the all-time series 103-79, including a 42-11 win in the first meeting in 1914. Prior to Saturday win that made it four in a row for SDSU, the Jackrabbits won the last three meetings, including a 74-63 in the first round of the North Central Conference Tournament on March 2, 2004.
The Last Meeting: at Frost Arena, Dec. 10, 2011 -SDSU opened Saturday's game with North Dakota on a 15-0 run and never looked back in a convincing 92-54 win in front of 4,104 fans at Frost Arena.
Six Jackrabbits scored in double figures in the first meeting between the former conference foes since March 2, 2004, which boosts the Jacks record to 8-3 on the season. North Dakota falls to 4-5 with the loss.
The Jacks, who led by 18 at the half, continued to build on the lead in the second half, going up as many as 41 points before the game ended with the final 38-point margin, which ties the highest margin of victory by either team in the 183 game series that dates back to Feb. 19, 1917.
Nate Wolters led the six Jackrabbits in double figures with 16 points. Tony Fiegen added 13 and Taévaunn Prince 12 points in just 16 minutes on the floor. Brayden Carlson and Chad White both finished with 11 points, which ties a career-high for Carlson. Jordan Dykstra scored 10 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds, as the Jacks dominated on the boards with a 45-21 advantage.
Washington Huskies (4-4, 4-0 Home) - The Huskies, who host UC-Santa Barbara on Friday looking to snap a three game losing streak, opened the season with three straight wins at home before falling in their first road game of the season at St. Louis on Nov. 20. They followed that up with a home win over Houston Baptist on Nov. 25 before starting the current skid, which includes losses at Nevada, against Marquette at the Jimmy V Classic in Madison Square Garden and, most recently, an 86-80 loss against perennial power Duke, also at Madison Square Garden.
Terrance Ross and C.J. Wilcox both average 16.5 points per game through the first eight contests. Ross adds 7.0 rebounds per game, while Wilcox adds 3.9 rebounds to go along with his team-high 23 three-pointers. Tony Wroten adds 14.3 points per game and ranks second on the team with 26 assists behind Abdul Gaddy and his 41 assists. Aziz N'Diaye averages 7.1 points and leads the team with 8.8 rebounds per game.
