SIOUX FALLS - South Dakota State took on Summit League co-favorite IPFW on Sunday at a windy Sherman Park in Sioux Falls looking to escape the three-game series with a win, but Mastodon junior Courtney Cronin led her team to the sweep in a 6-1 game.
In addition to tossing a complete game with 10 strikeouts, one walk and no earned runs, Cronin belted the go-ahead three run homerun in the top of the third that gave IPFW all they runs it would need to improve to 16-8-1 overall and 8-4 in The Summit League.
The Jacks fall to 7-22 overall and 4-5 in league play heading into Wednesday's scheduled doubleheader with Northern Iowa.
Devon Reick went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Jacks, Greta Stroh, Allison Huffman and Emily Weber accounted for the three other SDSU hits, as each player finished the day 1-for-3.
Pam Nicholson went the distance for the Jacks, giving up six runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
Weather and field conditions permitting, the Jacks host Northern Iowa on Wednesday in a doubleheader at 2 p.m., and return to Summit League play on Friday, with a home doubleheader against league front-runner Southern Utah.
