South Dakota State closed the first half of The Summit League schedule last weekend in Fargo, N.D., and despite a winning their third game in a row, the Jackrabbits snapped a long losing streak with a 91-88 overtime win over North Dakota State.
SDSU led by as many as 11 points late in the second half, but as these Jackrabbits saw so many times in years past, that does not mean much. The host Bison did erase that double-digit lead and force overtime, but this time the Jacks responded, and held on for the win, which snaps a 10 game overall losing streak to the Bison, and marks the first Jackrabbit win in Fargo since Feb. 26, 2005.
After trailing by as many as five points early, Jordan Dykstra put the Jacks up 12-10 with one of his three three-pointers of the night with 11:54 to go in the first half. Less than two minutes later, Chad White knocked down a three to give SDSU a 15-10 lead.
The Jacks would hold on to that lead until the 5:05 mark of the first half, when TrayVonn Wright hit a jumper to tie the game at 19-all. SDSU would answer with a 10-2 run that put the Jacks up 29-21 at halftime.
Despite leading by as many as 11 points in the second half on three different occasions, the last being at the 5:55 mark in the second half, SDSU could not keep the potent NDSU offense bottled up, as the Bison chipped away at the lead, until they eventually tied the game at 76-76 with eight seconds left in regulation.
Wolters hit a three to get the Jacks within one point and Griffan Callahan hit a free throw for the first of four ties in the extra stanza. From there the lead would change hands three times, before Callahan put the Jacks up for good at 84-83 with 2:22 left in the OT.
Wolters scored just four points in the first half, but erupted for 23 in the second half to finish with 27. He also added seven rebounds and a game-high seven assists. Dykstra added a season-high 20 points, Callahan 19 and White 11 points in the win.

JACKS RECEIVING VOTES IN MID-MAJOR TOP-25 - After cracking the collegeinsider.com Mid Major Top-25 for the first time this season at No. 25 on Dec. 19. The Jacks moved up to No. 23 in the poll released on Dec. 26, and moved up to No. 21 in the poll released on Jan. 2, but fell out of the poll to the top team receiving votes in the last three polls.
WOLTERS CLIMBS THE 1,000-POINT CLUB LADDER - Junior Nate Wolters became the 42nd member of the SDSU 1,000-Point Club in the Jacks win over Sam Houston State on Nov. 22, and instantly began the climb up the all time list. Wolters enters the week with 1,328 career points, good for 14th all-time at SDSU. Wolters needs 28 points to move up one spot on the list to 13th, and 68 points to crack the top-10.
WOLTERS CHASES SCORING RECORD - Nate Wolters scored 907 points in his first two years as a Jackrabbit, including the SDSU sophomore record with 604 points. Double that two-year point total, and it does not appear that he entered his junior season on pace to break the all-time SDSU scoring record of 1,931 points, but if he averages 512 points per season over his last two years, the record, set by Mark Tetzlaff from 1981-85, would indeed fall.
NAGY NOTCHES 300th CAREER WIN - Already the most prolific coach in SDSU history, head coach Scott Nagy entered the 2011-12 season with 289 wins, just 11 shy of reaching the 300-win milestone, which he reached in the Jackrabbits 94-58 win over IPFW on Dec. 28.
NAGY TEAMS WITH SAMARITANS FEET - Head coach Scott Nagy teamed up with Samaritan's Feet in each of the last three seasons to raise money and shoes for children around the world, including Haiti, and the cause really hits home for Nagy and his family, especially after a major earthquake shook the country on Jan. 12, 2010.
"My wife Jamie and I adopted our daughter Naika from Haiti, so we've seen first-hand the need for shoes there," Nagy said.
Nagy raised over $6,000 for the relief efforts in Haiti after the devastating 2010 earthquake, and then took it to another level last season, when the entire Jackrabbit coaching staff coached in their bare feet against IPFW on Jan. 22, to raise money for shoes and shelters in Zimbabwe.
Nagy made it four years in a row this season when he coached barefoot against UMKC in Frost Arena on Jan. 14.

THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS
Oakland Golden Grizzlies (11-11, 5-5 Summit, 6-5 Home) - An up and down season continues for the two-time defending league champion Golden Grizzlies, who put together a six game winning streak early in the season, only to post six straight losses at one point as well. They stopped the skid with three straight wins, but enter Thursday's game after falling to preseason favorite Oral Roberts last Saturday in Tulsa, Okla.
Reggie Hamilton leads five Golden Grizzlies that average in double figures with 23.7 points per game. He also adds 3.3 rebounds per game and leads the team with 104 assists and with 54 steals. Travis Bader adds 13.4 points per game, while Drew Valentine scores 12.1 points and ranks second on the team with 7.1 rebounds per game. Both Laval Lucas-Perry and Corey Petros average 10.2 points per game, with Petros adding a team-high 7.9 rebounds per game.
The Series vs. Oakland - The Golden Grizzlies lead the all-time series 9-2, after the Jackrabbits snapped a six game losing streak against Oakland in the first meeting of the 2011-12 season on Dec. 30. The Jacks enter the game with an 0-4 record all time at the O'rena.
The Last Meeting: Dec. 30, 2011, Frost Arena - SDSU fell into an early 15-5 hole just seven minutes into the game, but the Jackrabbit answered with a 16-2 run to take 21-17 lead and never trailed again in a 76-64 win over the Golden Grizzlies.
A pair of Jordan Dykstra three-pointers highlighted the run for the Jackrabbits, as the sophomore scored eight of the 16 points in the run.
The Jackrabbits would push the lead to as many as nine points in the first half, only to see Oakland cut the deficit to just two points at 34-32 at halftime.
Two Brayden Carlson three-pointers to start the second half put the Jacks up by eight, and Oakland did not get any closer than four points the rest of the game.
Nate Wolters led the balanced Jackrabbit offense with 19 points and added seven assists. Carlson scored a career-high 18 in the win with a 6-for-6 night from the floor, which includes a perfect 4-for-4 mark from long range. Carlson also set a career-high with 40 minutes played and tied a career-mark with five steals.
Dykstra finished with 17 and Tony Fiegen 10 points in the win. Griffan Callahan and Chad White both added six points.
Reggie Hamilton led all scorers with 20 points. Drew Valentine scored 15 and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. Corey Petros and Laval Lucas-Perry both scored 12 points in a losing cause.
IPFW Mastodons (9-10, 3-7 Summit, 7-3 Home) - The Mastodons, who host North Dakota State on Thursday before hosting the Jackrabbits on Saturday, enter the week riding a four game losing streak, with all of the losses coming in Summit League play, including a pair of losses on the road last week at Oral Roberts and at Southern Utah.
Frank Gaines enters the week leading IPFW with 20.2 points per game and with 5.7 rebounds per game. The only other player on the team to average in double figures, Trey McCorkle adds 12.2 points per game and, with Gaines, holds the team lead with 5.7 rebounds per game. The next leading scorer on the Mastodons roster, Justin Jordan scores 8.9 points per game.
The Series vs. IPFW - The Jackrabbits can tie the all-time series at 8-8 with a win on Saturday in Fort Wayne, where the Mastodons own a 5-1 record against the Jacks. The lone SDSU win in Fort Wayne came last year in an 80-64 Jackrabbit victory on Feb. 17.
The Last Meeting: Dec. 28, 2011, Frost Arena - Five Jackrabbits scored in double figures to pave the way for a 94-58 win over IPFW in front of 2,335 fans at Frost Arena that also witnessed head coach Scott Nagy win his 300th career game.
Chad White led the Jackrabbits with 18 points in the win, grabbing six rebounds and dishing out a career-high seven assists in the process. Both Nate Wolters and Brayden Carlson finished with 17 points, which marks a career-high for Carlson. Wolters added four each in rebounds and assists, all without a turnover, which gives him more than 70 minutes over the last three games without turning the ball over.
Tony Fiegen added 12 points and six rebounds, while Griffan Callahan rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points. Jordan Dykstra finished with nine points and a game-high eight rebounds, as SDSU won the rebounding battle 45-31. The Jacks also finished plus 13 in assists with a 21-8 edge.
Frank Gaines led a trio of Mastodons in double figures with 15 points. Trey McCorkle added 12 and Justin Jordan 10 points in the loss.
