Several changes to event operations and the gameday experience are planned for the 2014 football season at South Dakota State University.
The home football season kicks off Saturday night (Sept. 6), when the Jackrabbits host Cal Poly in the inaugural Dairy Drive. The team also will raise awareness for the Samaritan's Feet organization during Saturday's game, which is scheduled for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
Due to pending construction on the new Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium, half of the parking lot directly west of the existing Coughlin-Alumni Stadium has been eliminated. A temporary Priority Parking lot will be located on the east side of Coughlin-Alumni Stadium, with parking available up to one hour prior to kickoff.
In an effort to further pedestrian safety, no parking will be allowed on 16th Avenue, the north-south route directly east of Coughlin-Alumni Stadium. Fans traveling from the east and south are encouraged to park in the Performing Arts Center lots off 11th Street or the north HPER Center lot off 16th Avenue. Fans traveling from the west can park in the Briggs Library lot off North Campus Drive via Medary Avenue.
North Campus Drive from 16th Avenue west to the Briggs Library lot will be blocked off starting five hours before kickoff and will remain closed to thru traffic for one hour following the game.
Additional parking lots within easy walking distance of the stadium are the HPER Center south lot and Student Union lots (see map).
SDSU students, who are admitted free with a valid ID, should enter Coughlin-Alumni Stadium at Gate 8.
Also a result of the construction, the ticket booth on the west side will be razed. Two temporary ticket booths – one on the northwest corner of the west lot and another at the southwest corner of the west lot – will be available on game days. The Will Call window will be located at the southwest ticket booth.
Fans are encouraged to utilize the print-at-home ticket system for online and phone orders to avoid handling fees and long lines at the Will Call window.
Tailgate lots north of Coughlin-Alumni Stadium and the new Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex will open five hours prior to kickoff and will remain open up until kickoff. The SDSU Alumni Association will host tailgating activities in the Yellow lot north of the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex. Midco Fan Fest also will be located north of the indoor facility and will include games for all ages, as well as game-specific promotions and contests. Midco Fan Fest will move into the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex later in the season.
Additional gameday hospitality opportunities will be available later in the season for Jackrabbit Club members at the Varsity level or higher in the Hobo Hangout, which will be located in the lower level of the Dykhouse Student-Athlete Center. The Hobo Hangout will debut during the Oct. 25 Hobo Day game against Youngstown State.
Other events scheduled in conjunction with the 2014 football season include:
* Sept. 20 – Free youth football clinic (1:30-3 p.m.) and Beef Bowl vs. Wisconsin-Oshkosh (6 p.m.)
