GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Parker Brown and freshman Wyatt Rumrill each won two events, leading the South Dakota State University men's swimming and diving team in a 171-129 season-opening loss at the University of North Dakota on Saturday afternoon.
A sophomore from Cambridge, Minnesota, Brown won the 1-meter competition with a score of 246.53. He completed the sweep of the diving events on the 3-meter board with a score of 262.13.
In his first collegiate meet, Rumrill, a Pierre native, claimed both breaststroke events. He won the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.10 seconds and the 200 in 2:11.65. The Jackrabbits claimed the top three spots in the 200 breaststroke, with Josh DeDina finishing second in 2:13.25 and Geoffrey Longhurst placing third in 2:15.57.
Senior Garth Wadsworth closed out the Jackrabbit individual victories by winning the 200 butterfly in 1:55.69. He also was runner-up in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.41 seconds.
The Jackrabbits closed the meet by winning the 400 freestyle relay. The quartet of Ben Bolinske, Tony Mikrut, Chris Rumrill and Daniel Jacobson clocked a winning time of 3:06.96. Bolinske added a pair of top-three individual finishes in the sprints, placing second in the 50 freestyle (:21.17) and a third-place time of 47.39 seconds in the 100 freestyle.
Jacobson added a runner-up time of 46.75 seconds in the 100 freestyle.
The Jackrabbit men return to competition Nov. 11 with a dual at the University of South Dakota.
