Five-Game Road Trip Starts at Illinois State

Fresh off its first homestand of the season, South Dakota State hits the road for its first road trip of the season, a five-game, four-city excursion starting Thursday night against the Illinois State Redbirds.
Thursday's game tips at 7 p.m. from Redbird Arena in Normal, Ill., where the hosts rebounded from a season-opening loss at San Diego State with a 67-66 win over Morehead State on a last-second layup to move to 1-1 on the season.
The Jackrabbits opened the season with back-to-back home wins for the first time since their Division II days in 1999-2000, when SDSU downed St. Mary's (Minn.) and Minot State to open the season. This year, the Jacks opened with a dominating 87-52 win over Chadron State, and then followed that up with an 85-68 win over Big Sky Conference favorite Weber State on Monday night at Frost Arena.
THE OPPONENT
ILLINOIS STATE REDBIRDS (1-1, 1-0 Home): Picked to finish fourth in the Missouri Valley Conference Preseason Poll behind Wichita State, Evansville and Northern Iowa, the Redbirds look to build on the 2014-15 season, when they posted a 22-13 overall record, with an 11-7 mark in the Valley, good for a third place tie.
Like the Jackrabbits, the Redbirds missed out on the NCAA Tournament last year, but did earn an NIT bid, and won their opening game at home against Green Bay before falling in the second round at Old Dominion.
