FRESNO, Calif. – Winter weather in Tennessee over the last month cost the South Dakota State softball team a total of nine games, leaving the Jackrabbits off the diamond since March 15, and the rust showed on the first day of the Fresno State Classic, as the Jacks fell 11-1 to Providence and 10-0 to Pacific.
The losses drop the Jacks to 4-8 on the season, while the Friars improved to 3-9 and the Tigers to 9-17.
SDSU's lone run on the day came in the bottom of the first inning, when Elyse Eitel doubled home Devan Larsen, but the Friars answered with seven runs in the third and never looked back.
Eitel picked up two of the three Jackrabbit hits against Pacific, but stranded all three of them in the loss.
The Jacks look to get back on the winning track on Friday, when they take on No. 16 ranked Minnesota at 11 a.m. CT, followed by a game against Cal Poly at 5:45 p.m. CT.
