MITCHELL, S.D. – The South Dakota State softball team combined 32 hits, with nine extra base hits and six homeruns, including an inside the park homer, in sweeping a doubleheader at Dakota Wesleyan on Thursday. The Jackrabbits win the opener 14-2 in five innings, and took the nightcap 11-2 in six innings.
SDSU improves to 8-12 with the sweep, while the Tigers fall to 5-19 on the season.
Devan Larsen led the Jackrabbits with a perfect day at the plate. She went 5 for 5, with three homeruns, two of them in the first game, including an inside the park homer. She also added a double to go with three RBI and seven runs scored.
Lauren Chirnside also went deep twice in the opener, both solo shots, and went 5 for 7 on the day with three runs scored. Alyssa D'Agostino hit the other homer and finished the day 4 for 7 with the homer, a double, five RBI and a trio of runs scored.
Ashlyn Bender gave up no runs on just one hit in three innings of work in Game 1, striking out two and walking one to even her record at 5-5. Bryana Clark pitched all six innings of Game 2, giving up two runs on five hits, with five strikeouts and two walks.
The Jacks look to keep it rolling after a weekend off, when they travel to Kansas City on Tuesday to take on the former Summit League foe UMKC in a doubleheader at 2 and 4 p.m.
