KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The South Dakota State softball team gave up a pair of runs late on Sunday in the first game of the Rebel Spring Games, which led to a 2-1 loss to Akron.
The loss drops the Jackrabbits to 3-13 on the season, while the Zips improve to 9-10.
Scoreless into the third inning, the Jacks capitalized on a Zips miscue to score an unearned run, when Yanney Ponce scored on a Jordyn Sturgeon fielder's choice to give SDSU a 1-0 lead.
That lead held until the bottom of the fifth, when the Jacks returned the favor, and allowed the Zips to score an unearned run that tied the game at 1-1, and then used an inning-opening double to score a run in the sixth, which held up.
The Jacks look to pick up a win later on Sunday at 2:45 p.m., when they take on the Purple Eagles of Niagara.
