Home Runs by Crist, Larson Not Enough
FARGO, N.D.—A pair of two-run home runs weren't enough as the South Dakota State softball team lost 6-4 to South Dakota Wednesday afternoon in the opening game of the 2016 Summit League Tournament at Ellig Sports Complex.
With the loss, the Jackrabbits end the season 23-34.
SDSU took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when freshman Lyndsey Crist (Lincoln, Neb.) hit a two-run home run to left field.
South Dakota made it 2-1 with a home run in the third by senior Yvon Minogue.
Senior Devan Larsen (Monroe, Wash.) hit the Jackrabbits' second two-run home run with a shot to centerfield in the fourth inning.
Minogue hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning and a game-winning, three-run shot in the sixth inning.
Larsen was 2 for 3 with two RBI while Crist had two RBI. Freshman Ali Herdliska (Solon, Iowa) and sophomore Jordyn Sturgeon (Omaha, Neb.) each had singles.
Junior Ashlyn Bender (Highland, Calif.) took the loss, giving up four hits and three runs in an inning of work. Sophomore Bryana Clark (Riverside, Calif.) went five innings, giving up seven hits and three runs while striking out four.
