INDIANAPOLIS -- South Dakota State dropped a 5-2 contest in its series finale at IUPUI Saturday.
SDSU (13-21, 0-3 Summit League) had eight hits on the day as
Julia Andersen and
Ali Herdliska notched doubles.
Brittney Morse and
Mallory McQuistan drove in the two Jackrabbit runs.
Abby Deane (7-12) started and tossed three innings in the circle, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Madison Hope threw the final three frames, giving up an unearned run on three hits with two strikeouts.
The Jacks struck first for the third straight game, taking a 2-0 lead in the first after
Emily Ensrud, Andersen and Morse strung consecutive hits to open the game. Ensrud reached on a lead-off single and moved to third on Andersen's double. From there, Morse took a 1-1 pitch into right field to plate both runners.
State's lead was cut in half after an IUPUI home run in the third, and the Jaguars took the lead for good with three runs in the fourth. After IUPUI stretched its advantage to three (5-2) in the fifth and hung on the rest of the way, though SDSU had a one-out baserunner in the seventh before a strikeout and groundout ended the game.
