VERMILLION, S.D. -- South Dakota State saw its eight-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday night, falling 87-68 to South Dakota.
SDSU (17-6, 5-1 Summit League) shot 40.3 percent from the field and hit 11-of-30 from deep, but struggled at the line and hit just seven of its 14 attempts.
Mike Daum led the Jacks with an 18-point, 14-rebound double-double and dished out three assists.
Skyler Flatten buried four 3-pointers en route to 14 points, even with Tevin King in the scoring column. King added seven rebounds.
Both teams fired out of the gates at a frenetic pace, sitting in a 16-16 tie less than six minutes into the action. The pace slowed from there but the back-and-forth play continued, with the teams even at 22 at the under-eight media.
Out of the reset, the Jackrabbits built a 27-22 lead on five straight from Daum, but saw USD take control with a 14 unanswered and could not recover the momentum.
Down 38-32 at the break, State cut it to four on a Daum layup to open the second half before the Coyotes pulled away for good with a 20-5 rally, ending any comeback threat.
