Jacks earn Easton/NFCA Academic Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- South Dakota State was one of 140 Division I softball programs to earn a spot on the 2019 Easton / National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Academic Teams award list, announced this week by the organization. The rankings recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across seven membership divisions within the NFCA.
The Jackrabbits had a 2018-19 team grade point average of 3.447, finishing 53rd out of 286 total NCAA Division I programs (140 qualified for the list overall with a plus-3.00 GPA). 18 Jackrabbits boasted individual grade point averages above the 3.00 mark

Julia Andersen, Caelyn Christiancy, Lyndsey Crist, Ali Herdliska, Baily Janssen, Jadelyn Johnson, Kelsey Lenox, Mallory McQuistan, Erin Mullen, Olivia Pfeifer, Kerigan Torres and Allison Beaudry earned 3.50 or above GPAs and were honored as NFCA scholar-athletes in the same release. Herdliska and Mullen are three-time selections, while Andersen and McQuistan were scholar-athletes in 2018 as well.
Those 12 Jackrabbits were among 1,769 Division I honorees and 8,161 total scholar-athletes across seven membership divisions.

"Our program sets high expectations of our student-athletes in the classroom, and it's exciting to see individuals live up to those goals," head coach Krista Wood said. "I'm proud of the dedication our students have shown in the classroom and am proud to have this group recognized for their efforts."
