LINCOLN, Neb. - Sophomore
Coby Hilton reset his personal-best mark in the 60m for the fourth consecutive meet - this time in the prelims on opening night of the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational - to move into a three-way tie for South Dakota State's No. 4 all-time mark.
Â
Both Hilton and junior
Sam Zenner notched automatic bids into the finals of the 60m by winning their respective heats in the 60m, with Zenner adding what would be the school-record time of 6.80 seconds if he hadn't already owned it at 6.77 seconds (from the Jim Emmerich Invite on Jan. 19).
Â
Fellow sprinting teammate, junior
Landon Larson, finished second in his heat and was initially tied for the last qualifying spot into the finals (6.91 seconds) with two other student-athletes. However, he missed the last bid by 0.007 seconds.
Â
Hilton is now tied with teammate Larson and LeAndre Kennedy's 2016 mark. Both Zenner and Hilton will compete tomorrow at 2:26 p.m. in the finals.
Â
Also qualifying for the finals tomorrow at the Bob Devaney Sports Center was junior
Jaymie O'Connor in the 60m hurdles. She finished third in her heat and eighth overall to claim the last bid into the championship race. O'Connor will run in the finals at 2:10 p.m. tomorrow.
Sophomore
Evan Fick added SDSU's first official team mark in the 5,000m with his first career indoor attempt in the event. His performance tonight becomes his overall personal-best and beats his 2018 outdoor best by 13.90 seconds. It is the best 5,000m performance in The Summit League, though it is only the second mark recorded in the league to this point of the season (beating North Dakota's Jacob Henne's season-best by 40.61 seconds).
Â
Junior
Miatta Flemister-Smith and freshman
Reid Pierzinski also added preliminary marks on Friday evening with Flemister-Smith finishing third in her heat, 12th overall (7.71), in the 60m and Pierzinski posting the sixth-best time in his heat, 17th overall (8.47), in the 60m hurdles.
