Outstanding Jackrabbits honored at banquet

Six record-setting South Dakota State University student-athletes were honored with the Outstanding Jackrabbit Award Thursday night at the Athletic Department's annual Senior Banquet.
Receiving the award were:
Christion set 17 school records, as well as Missouri Valley Football Conference career records, for passing yards (11,535), total offense (13,050 yards) and passing touchdowns (104). A three-time finalist for the Walter Payton Award as the top offensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision, the Sioux Falls native compiled a 33-11 record as the Jackrabbits' starting quarterback, including leading the team to back-to-back 10-win seasons and consecutive semifinal appearances in the FCS playoffs in 2017 and 2018.
Daum became only the 10th player in Division I men's basketball history to score 3,000 career points, finishing seventh with 3,067 points. A three-time Summit League Player of the Year, Daum also registered career school records with 1,236 rebounds and 271 3-pointers made The Kimball, Nebraska, native helped lead the Jackrabbits to four straight postseason berths — three straight NCAA Tournament appearances (2016-18) and an NIT bid in 2019.
Guebert holds the SDSU and Summit League career record for 3-pointers made with 369. A three-time all-league selection, Guebert also ranks third in career scoring at SDSU with 1,821 points. Originally from Apple Valley, Minnesota, Guebert established a new Jackrabbit standard for career free throw shooting at 86.2 percent.
Herdliska has re-written the SDSU softball record book, holding multiple career marks including home runs (44), runs scored (137) and slugging percentage (.632). The Solon, Iowa, native is on pace to be a four-time all-Summit League selection and also was an all-region honoree in 2018 in helping lead the Jackrabbits to a postseason berth for the first time at the Division I level.
King has excelled in distance running for the Jackrabbits, winning a total of eight Summit League individual titles in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track. A native of St. Michael, Minnesota, King was honored as Summit League Athlete of the Year in both indoor track and cross country during the 2017 calendar year. She also holds six school records and has been ranked as high as No. 4 in the world this year in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
A Mitchell native, Miller was honored as the Summit League Player of the Year during both the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. Her 2,355 career points are both SDSU and Summit League records. During her senior season, Miller averaged a league-best 18.2 points per game in leading the Jackrabbits to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. A three-time first-team all-Summit performer, Miller was recently selected in the third round of the WNBA Draft by the Seattle Storm.
In addition, 10 senior student-athletes were named recipients of the Jackrabbit Impact Award for their contributions to SDSU Athletics:
Cox also was one of four recipients of the Jackrabbit-Scholar Athlete Award, all of whom maintained perfect 4.0 grade-point averages throughout their collegiate careers. Other honorees included Carolyn Kennedy (women's swimming), Rachel Propst (women's track and field) and Wyatt Rumrill (men's swimming). In all, 30 senior student-athletes have posted a GPA of 3.5 or higher during their collegiate careers. The team academic award was presented to the women's corss country team after compiling a cumulative 3.736 team GPA through fall 2018.
Jackrabbit Courage Awards for overcoming injury or other hardship during their collegiate careers were presented to Skyler Flatten (men's basketball), Ryan Froom (baseball) and Isaac Wallace (football).
