SIOUX FALLS – Jackrabbit softball's
Ali Herdliska was named to the 2019 Academic All-Summit League Team Wednesday, being recognized for her combined athletic and academic performances this season.

Herdliska earned a spot on the academic squad for the third year in a row and is the first-ever Jackrabbit to receive All-Summit League honors in each of her four years. The Solon, Iowa native led South Dakota State's offense all season with a .338/.483/.700 slash line, racking up 54 hits, 45 walks and 46 runs batted in. Herdliska broke the school's single-season mark for free passes and tied her own record for single-season home runs (16), adding eight doubles as part of 25 extra base hits for the year. She played all available innings at first base and did not commit an error during the regular season.

Additionally, the two-time NFCA All-Region honoree broke the school's career records for home runs (48), walks (125), runs batted in (168) and runs scored (144). Her home run total matched the Summit League's top career mark, and she reset the league's walks record.

Herdliska is majoring in early childhood education and closed the spring term with a 3.71 grade point average.

The Summit League's Academic All-League Team is voted on by the institution's faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors, and to be eligible a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.
