Jackrabbit softball adds two

South Dakota State softball announced Wednesday the addition of Hannah Loving and Chiara Bassi for the 2020 season. Bassi is a member of the Italian National Team and will arrive on campus as a freshman, while Loving spent a year at Northern Iowa and has three years of eligibility remaining.

"We are thrilled to bring two high-character and multi-talented young women to our program," head coach Krista Wood said. "These two know what it takes to be successful on and off the field and will be great additions to the Jackrabbit softball family.

"Hannah is a local player who was extremely successful in club and high school ball, and brings a steady, intelligent approach from behind the plate to work with our pitchers. Chiara's glovework will elevate our infield immediately, and her dedication to the game and her craft will be an asset to our program."

Attended Northern Iowa for the 2018-19 school year and had a hit in her lone at-bat for the Panthers … graduated from O'Gorman High School (Sioux Falls, S.D.) in May 2018 … two-time All-State performer, earning first team honors in 2016 and second team in 2015 … two-time All-State Tournament Team (2015-16) … helped team to 2017 State Championship despite battling mono throughout senior campaign … played club softball with South Dakota Renegades, winning four-consecutive state championships (2014-17) … helped team to runner-up finish at 2016 PGF Nationals and a ninth-place slot in 2017 … club team earned an invitation to play against Team USA's Junior Women's softball team … National Honor Society member, South Dakota Regent Scholar and Presidential Scholar Award winner … born April 16, 2000 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota … daughter of Phil and Lisa Loving … father, Phil, played tennis at South Dakota … plans to major in pre-dental.

Graduated from Liceo scientifico Guglielmo Marconi (Parma, Italy) in 2018 … claimed three European Championships with Italian National Team (2015 – U16, 2018 – U18 and U22) … played with senior national team at Super Six and Asian Pacific Cup … hit .300 with a .950 fielding percentage in 2019 … born Oct. 5, 1999 in Parma, Italy … daughter of Stefania Ferrari and Massimo Bassi … plans to major in Biology.
