South Dakota State's
Maggie Smither added another honor to her collection Wednesday as she was announced as the Women's Professional Soccer League's 2019 Central Region Northern Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
Smither spent the summer with Mankato United Soccer Club, helping the team to a 6-1-3 record in its inaugural season. She logged time in 10 contests, allowing just four goals with 13 saves, posting a 1.00 goals against average for the squad.
The two-time Summit League Goalkeeper of the Year was one of 10 Jackrabbits to compete in the WPSL this summer, joining

MaKayla Griffin,
Rachel Preston,
Taylor Lock,
Eden Brooker,
Adalaide Kline, Cecelia Limongi, Shaya Stubbs and
Sunniva Dunagan.
The Jackrabbits open their season Friday against Utah State. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. from Fishback Soccer Park. The weekend concludes Sunday with a 1 p.m. matchup against Idaho State on Hometown Heroes Day. Brookings area first responders can receive free admittance to watch the Jacks, and before the game, fans will have a chance to meet hometown heroes from the Brookings Police, Fire & Rescue Departments, who will have vehicles and equipment on hand for fans to explore.
