OMAHA, Neb. — The South Dakota State swimming and diving teams came up on the short end against Omaha in Summit League dual action Saturday at H&K Pool. The host Mavericks posted a 170-105 victory in women's action and completed the sweep with a 148-133 victory on the men's side.
MEN'S RECAP Alex Kraft paced the Jackrabbits with two of their individual victories in the swimming events, claiming both the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events. The senior from Shakopee, Minnesota, won the 200 in 1 minute, 43.96 seconds and the 500 in 4:50.28.
SDSU swimmers also posted runner-up finishes in both of Kraft's victories as Eric Anderson was second in the 200 (1:44.32) and Damon Venner placed second in the 500 (4:50.28). Anderson added second-place times of 21.37 seconds in the 50 freestyle and 46.87 seconds in the 100 free. Venner also was second in the 200 butterfly, 1:57.73.
Kraft also was a member of the Jackrabbits' winning 400 freestyle relay, teaming with Charles Sieglaff, Sam Johnson and Anderson for a time of 3:06.79.
Parker Brown added a victory in the 1,000 freestyle, clocking a season-best time of 10:10.13.
Freshman Austin Smith a trio of top-three individual finishes for SDSU, including runner-up finishes in the 100 backstroke (:53.13) and 200 individual medley (1:58.03). He closed the meet third-place effort in the 100 butterfly (:52.61).
The Jackrabbits' other individual victory was turned in by Spencer Fritze, who won the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 272.93 points. Teammate Erik Thompson took second with 265.20 points.
WOMEN'S RECAP Elisabeth Timmer continued her winning ways and Kelsey Kocon added an individual victory to lead the Jackrabbit women's squad.
A junior from Savaneta, Aruba, Timmer remained undefeated in five starts this season in the 50-yard freestyle by winning the event in 24.04 seconds. She also claimed the 100 freestyle in 52.02, but had her bid for three individual titles come up short in the 100 butterfly. Omaha's Annika Harthoorn won the 100 fly in 57.51 seconds, followed by Timmer in 58.51 seconds.
Timmer rounded out her afternoon by swimming on the Jackrabbits' winning 400 freestyle relay. She teamed with Emma Walz, Emma Bachelder and Kocon for a victorious time of 3 minutes, 32.32 seconds.
Kocon's victory came in the 200 individual medley, posting a time of 2:15.00. She also placed third in the 100 back (:59.66).
Bachelder notched a pair of top-three efforts individually, placing second in the 200 freestyle (1:57.18) and third in the 50 free (:25.08). Leticia Mendes added a runner-up finish in the 200 butterfly (2:18.86).

Both Jackrabbit squads are scheduled to compete in the Augustana Invitational Nov. 18-20 at the Midco Aquatic Center in Sioux Falls. Thursday's morning session starts at 9:30 a.m., with the evening session starting at 6 p.m.
