South Dakota State women's soccer volunteer assistant coach and the program's all-time leader in career wins, saves and shutouts Maggie Smither signed to play professionally for Grótta, a club based in Seltjarnarnes, Iceland, Sunday.
"I am very grateful for the opportunity to play with Grotta this summer," Smither said. "It will be exciting for me to play in a new country and I'm sure I can improve as a player for the club."
A native of Sioux Falls, S.D., Smither graduated from SDSU in 2019 after four years between the pipes for the Jacks. Smither appeared in 78 career games for the Jacks and recorded 44 wins, 298 saves and 32 shutouts. The Jacks qualified for the NCAA Tournament twice in Smither's four years.Â
Smither's career shutout and win totals also rank atop the Summit League's all-time list. She was a three-time Summit League Goalkeeper of the Year and a three-time All-Summit League First Team member.Â
Smither will head to Iceland at the end of March to prepare for Grótta's season-opener in April.Â
