OMAHA, Neb. – South Dakota State struck for five runs in each of the first two innings and went on to defeat Northern Colorado, 11-2, in five innings Saturday afternoon at the Connie Claussen Classic.
The Jackrabbits upped their record to 15-4 overall in sweeping the four-game season series from UNC. The Bears dropped to 2-15 on the season.
After UNC scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning, the Jackrabbits wasted little time in overtaking the Bears. Cylie Halvorson drove in Peyton Daugherty and Emma Osmundson with a double and Halvorson scored when Kelsey Lenox followed with a double of her own. Allison Beaudry added a run-scoring triple and later scored the final run of the frame on the back end of a double steal.
Beaudry plated the Jackrabbits' final run of the game with a single, which followed a Yoder triple to right field. Beaudry, Yoder and Lenox each tallied two of the Jackrabbits' 11 hits.
Mady Young accounted for the other Northern Colorado run with a solo home run in the third inning.
Jackrabbit starter Tori Kniesche picked up her team-leading seventh win after striking out five in four innings. She did not walk a batter.
