JACKS CONCLUDE PACKED WEEKEND

DES MOINES, Iowa — The South Dakota State track and field team concluded its time at the Drake Relays Saturday, with SDSU's women's shuttle hurdle team claiming another Drake Relays Champion title for the Jackrabbits.
Jaymie O'Connor, Haley Mottinger, Collette Wolfe and Savannah Risseeuw ran a 57.37 for first in the event in and a new SDSU school record. In the men's race, Nick Wessels, Reid Pierzinski, Pierre Lear, Jacob Lackas took second with a 1:00.75
The second-fastest 4x100 team in school history (Manny Phoulom-Smith, Jake Werner, Daniel Clarke and Coby Hilton) clocked a 40.24 in the men's 4x100 for third place to improve from the squad's previous-best time of 40.37. Before that, Hilton took a fourth-place finish in the men's 100m dash with a 10.48 clocking.Â
Oksana Covey, Hannah Whitbread, Lauren Van Dyke and Rich-Ann Archer ran a 3:52.31 for seventh in the women's unseeded 4x400. Covey also finished sixth with a 2:07.91 in the women's 800.
Jaymie O'Connor finished fourth with a 13.74 in the women's 100m hurdles.Â
Another group of student-athletes also competed at the NSU Open in Aberdeen on Saturday. There, Madison Kizer and Addison Eisenbeisz both jumped 5-04.25 for the Jacks in the women's high jump and Conner Powers leaped 6-2.75 in the men's high jump for fourth.
In the throws ring, Alexis Schmidt recorded a second place finish in the women's shot put with a hurl of 45-11.25 for third. Behind Schmidt were two more Jackrabbits in Madeline Moorhouse (4th, 42-10.25) and Meghan Hettinga (5th, 41-10.75). Hettinga then went on to throw for seventh in discus wih a 134-01. Naomi Wynn took third in the hammer throw with a 165-08.
In the men's throws, Bryce Ludwig finished second with a 145-10.00 hurl in discus. In hammer, Calob Jones threw for 172-09.00 and third place.
Josh Donahoe clocked a 15.24 and tied for third in the 110 hurdles and Andrew Law followed with a 16.08 (8th) and Kian Davis ran a 16.80 (12th). Kendyl Kreiber turned in a 16.39 for sixth in the women's 100 hurdles.
Nathan Notgrass ran a 4:07.86 for fourth in the men's 1500 and SDSU claimed the first two spots in the women's long jump at the NSU Open. Emily Altenburg finished first with a 18-09.75 and Emma Stewart recorded an 18-08.00. Matthew Katz took third in pole vault with a 14-05.25 clearance.Â
On Friday night, SDSU sent athletes to the Kip Janvrin Open at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. Lukas Nelson won the men's 800 with a time of 1:53.74 and Daniel Burhalter finished third with a 1:54.65. Blake Iverson ran a 3:56.72 in the men's 1500 for third, while Gabe Peters finished fourth with a 3:56.97 and Michael Schwinghamer crossed second in a time of 4:00.03.
Josh Becker took second with a 9:25.91 in the 3000 steeplechase, Jacob Lackas took fourth with a 15.22 in the men's 110m hurdles and Noah Strako followed with 15.26.
