TWO JACKS NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-LEAGUE TEAM

SIOUX FALLS – The Jackrabbit women's soccer team saw Rachel Hewitt and Rachel Preston named to the 2021 Summit League All-Academic Team, announced Monday by the league office.

Preston, just one of three repeat selections from last year's team, was named to the All-Summit League Second Team this season. Boasting a 3.91 grade point average as a nursing major, Preston logged the most minutes among the Jackrabbits this season (1,530) and was a part of all 12 shutouts. The Lakeville, Minnesota, defender saw the team allow a league-low five goals in 2021 and post a 0.29 goals-against average.

Hewitt maintained a 3.92 GPA in nursing and started all 17 contests for the Jackrabbits, logging 1041 minutes. She led the team and ranked fifth in the Summit League with five assists, while ranking third for SDSU with 12 shots on goal. The senior posted 22 shots on the season.

South Dakota State now has 14 selections all-time to the Summit League's All-Academic Team.

To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions. The all-academic league team is made up of the 11 student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.

The team is voted on by the institution's faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors.
