South Dakota State volleyball hosted Drake Saturday afternoon in the final match of the Jackrabbit Classic and fell 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-23)Â to the Bulldogs.
SDSU closes out non-conference action with an 8-3 record, the team's best start since 2012.
The first two sets of the contest went to the Bulldogs by matching 25-13 scores.
The Jackrabbits looked like a different team in set three. Drake held the Jacks off early but a
Chloe Stitt kill gave SDSU its first lead of the day at 6-5.
From there, neither team led by more than one until the Bulldogs scored three unanswered to go up 16-14.
Jadyn Makovicka found the floor on the next point to pull back within one before another 3-0 by Drake made it a 19-15 match in favor of the visitors. Two Jackrabbit blocks and an ace by Stitt put SDSU down just one, 19-18.
Drake rattled off another 3-0 run to lead 22-18 but the Jackrabbits respond with five-straight points, going up 23-22. The Bulldogs finished off the set with three-straight to sweep the match.
Tatum Pickar made her first appearance of the weekend in set three and tallied 11 digs, a team high.
Faith Saewert added eight.
Crystal Burk again led the Jackrabbits, notching 11 kills. She was followed by eight kills from Stitt. Stitt and Pickar had one ace serve apiece.
Carly Wedel dished out 30 assists.
Tournament MVP Mariana Rodrigues had 17 kills in three sets for Drake. Burk and Wedel were named to the Jackrabbit Classic all-tournament team for SDSU.
The Jackrabbits will open Summit League action next week with a trip south to the Coyotes South Dakota. SDSU will play at 7 p.m. Friday in Vermillion.
