South Dakota State softball and head coach
Krista Wood announced their fall 2021 schedule that includes four doubleheaders beginning September 18 against Northern State.
Â
The Jacks will also welcome St. Cloud State on Sept. 25, Augustana on Oct. 3 and Southwest Minnesota State on Oct. 10. All four doubleheaders will be played at 1 and 3 p.m. at Jackrabbit Softball Stadium.
Â
"We're looking forward to getting back out on the diamond and getting better, that's really what fall ball is all about," Wood said. "We've got four newcomers that we're looking to get some experience and our goal is to lay the foundation for an even better spring than we had in 2021."
Â
Wood, a two-time Summit League Coach of the Year honoree (2018, 2021), is back at the helm for her eighth season as head coach of the Jackrabbits. SDSU is coming off its best season in school history that saw the Jacks amass a 43-8 record (21-1 Summit League) and compete in an NCAA Regional for the first time in the program's Division I history.
Â
The Jacks return a loaded roster from a season ago, including nine All-Summit League Honorees – eight of which received first-team recognition. Summit League Pitcher of the Year
Tori Kniesche and Freshman of the Year
Grace Glanzer, who led the Summit League last season in ERA at 1.57 and 1.78, respectively, are back on the roster as only sophomores.
Â
The Jacks also return four of the top five, and five of the top ten, hitters in the Summit League from last season.
Jocelyn Carrillo (.418),
Peyton Daugherty (.374),
Emma Osmundson (.359), Summit League Player of the Year
Cylie Halvorson (.352) and
Kelsey Lenox (.324) all look to build off impressive seasons.
