SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota State's
Maya Hansen scored three goals over the course of two Jackrabbit victories and for her performance has been named the TicketSmarter Summit League Women's Soccer Offensive Peak Performer of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Hansen claimed her third player of the week honors from The Summit League in her college career and first accolades this season. She picked up the honors while raising her season point total to 21 and her overall goal mark eight through 12 games played.
In the Jackrabbits' weekend opener on Friday at St. Thomas, Hansen recorded a goal to begin the second half. Her 47th minute goal, assisted by
Hannah King, put the Jacks up 2-0 in a match they eventually won 3-1.
The Savage, Minn., native recorded a brace in Sunday's contest at Western Illinois. Hansen got the scoring started in the 31st minute as she headed a shot into goal in the 31st minute off a corner kick taken by
Laney Murdzek. She eventually put SDSU ahead 3-1 in the 87th minute as she struck a shot into the net on a dish from
Karlee Manding.
Hansen recorded a two-goal game for the fourth time in her tenure at South Dakota State. She currently is tied for first in The Summit League in goals and is alone atop the individual leaderboard in points. Hansen is second all-time in program history in points (90) and sits only four behind record holder Jennifer (Briggs) Kessler (2000-02). Her 36 career goals are three behind Briggs Kessler's record mark of 39.
The South Dakota State soccer team plays its final two home games of the regular season this weekend. The Jackrabbits take on Oral Roberts at 6 p.m. on Friday and follow it with a Senior Day match at Fishback Soccer Park versus Kansas City at 1 p.m. Sunday.
