ST. LOUIS — For the second time this season, South Dakota State's Hunter Dustman has been named Missouri Valley Football Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after kicking a game-winning field goal. Dustman was again honored Monday, two days after helping lead the Jackrabbits to a 31-28 road win at Northern Iowa that also clinched at least a share of the league title.
A junior from East Bethel, Minnesota, Dustman was 3-for-3 on field goals on the afternoon to tie a career high. He connected from 23 yards out to cap the Jackrabbits' first offensive offensive drive and added a career-long 45-yarder to close out the first half. His game-winner came from 26 yards with no time remaining on the clock.
In addition to his placekicking, Dustman handled the punting and kickoff duties for the Jackrabbits. He punted six times for an average of 39.7 yards with a long of 50 and recorded touchbacks on four of his five kickoffs.Â
Dustman also was honored as the MVFC Special Teams Player of the Week after kicking three field goals Oct. 15 at North Dakota State. He is now 11-for-17 on field goals this season and has scored a team-best 70 points.
Top-ranked South Dakota State, 9-1 overall and 7-0 in the MVFC, will attempt to wrap up a perfect season in league play by hosting Illinois State Saturday afternoon at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium. Kickoff for the Senior Day and Military Appreciation contest is set for 2 p.m.
