BIRMINGHAM, AL –
Trent Francom's illustrious indoor track career came to an end on Friday at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
The senior pole vaulter from Huron was unable to clear the opening height of 17-06.50 (5.35m) in three attempts. The winning jump was a clearance of 18-10.25 from Sondre Guttormson of Princeton.
In his second consecutive national indoor championship appearance, Francom entered the competition with the 14
th highest mark in the country, a season-best 17-11.00 that he cleared at the USD Alumni Meet on Feb. 5 in Vermillion.
The Huron native is etched into SDSU history in quite a special way, as no Jackrabbit vaulter in the indoor or outdoor season has ever passed 17 feet besides Francom, who is the current SDSU school record holder.
He looks to continue his success as in the yellow and blue during the upcoming spring outdoor track season.
